Haymills sponsor young apprentices for an innovative 'Build-a-Bungalow' project

Haymills actively support Young Apprentice Construction students and our latest sponsorship project is with West Suffolk College. The unique Build-a-Bungalow project will give the 11 year old pupils the opportunity to build two miniature ‘bungalows’ to deadline within a site-based  working environment at the college’s Anglian Lane Site.  [29 June – 1- July]

The sponsorship of Haymills will be in collaboration with Buildbase in Thetford.

Carol King, School Links co-ordinator quoted  “We are grateful for the support from these organisations. We are training the Construction experts of the future, ready for the eventual upturn in the economy.”

“This is a unique event and the first of its kind to be held in the Eastern Region,” said. “The students are building scale models which incorporate the brickwork, carpentry and construction techniques used in real life house building. They are bringing a tremendous amount of enthusiasm and skill to the task.

“Buildbase has provided hundreds of pounds’ worth of materials to enable this exciting event to take place. Haymills has provided Health & Safety signage. The collaboration with these firms and their suppliers proves that the construction industry is alive and kicking in the Eastern Region.

The Young Apprentices come to College on one day a week from local schools – Thetford: Charles Burrell High School and Rosemary Musker High School,  Haverhill: Castle Manor Business & Enterprise College, Stowmarket High School, Thurston Community College and County Upper School in Bury St Edmunds.
